This book does a great job exploring how to foster inquiry from many different directions. It is best ised when you are trying to add inquiry into your classroom, but not as helpful at teaxhing all your lessons through inquiry. When it came to practical implementation tips they point out a great deal of resources, but many of these can be come across on their own or are pretty obvious The one idea That seemed unique and I was interested in learning more about was never explained, but instead pointed me to another source to be explained.Overall this seems like a rehash of the first book with little updated and little information that can't be learned elsewhere. Save your 20 dollars and spend some time googling inquiry. If this is your first introduction to inquiry and your googlefu fails you it could be useful.

After reading Trevor's first book "Dive into Inquiry" i felt compelled to follow up with a book that would give the elementary teachers guidance on how to create a culture of Inquiry for the youngest minds. This book is exactly what you will need to help you foster an inquiry mindset in your younger students. Take a good look at all the wonderful sketches- if you are a visual learner like me, these will help you even more. The concrete examples provided in the book by its co author, Rebecca Bathurst-Hunt, are so easy to replicate and will spark more ideas for your implementation in the classroom. After reading and loving Trevor's first book, Dive Into Inquiry, I hoped for a follow-up book aimed at elementary teachers. This is it! Inquiry Mindset supports and guides elementary teachers through the nuts and bolts of inquiry-based teaching and learning. It's format is approachable with tips for teaching and reflecting that can be put into practice right away. The Inquiry in Action steps at the end of each chapter encourage the reader to try something new, then share about the experience, making this book is ideal for a staff book study. Trevor and Rebecca bring their own classroom experiences to the table. As current classroom teachers, their knowledge and enthusiasm are genuine and credible. Think of them as the mentor colleagues you need to support your inquiry mindset. I suggest buying both books!

I can’t say enough good things about this book- it changed my students, and my, way of thinking.

Trevor MacKenzie dives deeper into inquiry for the younger grade levels and reflects on the important elements to becoming and sustaining an inquiry practice in the classroom. He focuses on the questions not the answers and reminds readers of the importance behind this pedagogical approach. What's more, from the Inquiry Cycle to Public Displays of Understanding, he takes the teacher (reader) from start to finish by demonstrating real examples for teachers to follow. As an educator and proponent of Inquiry Based Instruction, this is a must-read for those who want to take their teaching practice to the next level and beyond.

Even though the author says this is for young children, I found most of his ideas not appropriate for kindergarten. (He teaches high school, so even though he co-authored with a kindergarten teacher, I saw little evidence of ideas that were actually appropriate for kindergarten).

I purchased Inquiry Mindset and in four days I read the whole book. I was so excited to learn about all the different types of inquiry. I started reading the book and could not put it down. The book has amazing ideas for your classroom environment. It also gives you lots of ideas on how to set up different areas in your classroom so students can explore and discover answers to their essential questions. I have learned so many wonderful ways to promote inquiry in my classroom. I love the idea of the curiosity jar, the wonder window, the observation table, the cave and many more ideas. I took so many notes and I can't wait to use the ideas in my classroom. I enjoyed this book so much that I am ordering Dive into Inquiry. I highly recommend this book to all teachers who want to learn more about inquiry in the classroom.

We have been using this book for our "Saturday pie day" - hubby picks a pie on Thursday, we get ingredients on Friday, and I bake the pie on Saturday. It made hubby feel so important, he absolutely loves this book.The recipes in the book are good - these pies are a bit complicated and sophisticated, but they are not difficult to bake. For example, for apple pie I have been using whatever apples I have in hands, with sugar, vanilla extract and cinnamon (nutmeg if I feel fancy), but the recipe in this book might suggest a couple more spices, or specify which type of apple, or suggest a new way to process them, or pair the pie with a different crust. There were times I felt that a particular recipe could be too much work, but most of the time the workload is reasonable. And it makes hubby feel fancy.This pie book also presents some crust recipes that I was not familiar before. And interestingly, when I testes these crust recipes against the ones highly praised on internet, we actually liked the ones from this book better. Before, 99% of time for fruit pies I use double butter crusts, but after trying different pie crusts, I pair berry pie and peach pie with quite a few different crusts now. Some recipes are pretty traditional, which is great conversation piece for parties. I was surprised when older folks were reminded their childhood pie by the pie I baked from this book. So now, whenever I bake for a gathering, I always pick a recipe from this book.The downside of this book though, is the index. There is no good way of finding out which pie is on which page. It did list the name of the pie at the beginning of each chapter, but chapters are arranged by the type of the pie but not by ingredients, so if you want to find recipes for, let's say an apple pie, you would have to go through the first page of each chapter to get an idea of which apple pie recipes this book offers. The back index does not help much either, since it is based on the first letter of the name of the pie. So a name like "White Russian pie" does not help at all when you looks for a pie with coffee, if you do not know what White Russian pie is supposed to be. I'd like to see a list of the names of pies at the beginning of the book, with main ingredient listed. Hubby has to flip through entire book to find a pie for the ingredients he has in mind. So lately he has been just opening the book and point on random pages...Overall I would recommend the book. I bake with it. It does make me feel like hitting "Ctrl+F" sometimes though.

As a Kindle recipe book this totally sucks. For instance if you want to see the directions for prebaking a pie crust you have to go to the chapter on pastry and thumb through it to find the directions. they aren't easy to find. Same for each individual kind of crust. I thought that at least I could go to the index and find it there. The index was really had to follow, pretty jumbled up. I did eventually find the listing for pre-baking a pie crust. However there was no page or location listed for it and you couldn't go there by clicking on the link. Pretty useless in my mind.

This Pie book is so indespensable and versatile, you can use it and rotate the flavors in 365 days. I am not kidding because it gives you more than 10 options which pie crust you are going to bake and about 200+ recipes of pie fillings that are made from scratch. Also give you many variations. Some of the recipes are coming from inns and other restaurants that may exist around the world like the United States, Australia, England and many more. This is a great read for a coffee table and part of your baking kitchen collection. I have bought the kindle version, and it was very handy.

I am overwhelmed at the comprehensive content of this book. Not just pie recipes. Not just special notes about baking better. But dozens of variations on EACH TYPE of pie. Not recipes that come from spiral bound women's clubs nation-wide and regurgitated herein (with all due respect to them). The recipes are a careful collection from the best sources including iconic restaurants and top chefs nationwide. I counted at least two dozen apple pie recipes! Many for chess pie! And a Funeral Pie too! Really? Wonderful pies I have never heard of! This will most likely be the last 'pie' cookbook you will ever need. I love pie!

Can't speak to the recipes yet, as I only purchased this book yesterday, but the Kindle formatting is terrible. Links take you to wrong recipes, no links or location/page numbers at all in the index . . . very disappointed.

This is an excellent pie book. Just reading it is entertaining and educational. He always offers a "Recipe for Success" section of tips with each pie recipe and that is really helpful. There are quite a few crust recipes, as well as topping recipes and tips on how to buy the best fruits. There are combinations of pies that most of us have never even thought of, such as Fresh Plum and Port Pie, Apricot Mango, or Carrot Custard Pie. The variety is very nice. You have a lot to pick and choose from and can mostly navigate around foods you don't like or can't have. He includes hand-pies, refrigerator pies, and ice cream pies as well as the traditional fruit, nut, berry, custard, chiffon, chess, and cream pies. So far, I have tried the Spiced Indian Pudding Pumpkin Pie and it was very good.I bought the Kindle version and the only problem I've had with it seems to be some navigation issues. Clicking on some of the pie titles (mostly the ones that are 2 lines), leads to the index, which is not clickable. You have to page through to these recipes, and then, if you like it, bookmark it. It's a little annoying, but manageable, and if you are reading page by page it bypasses the problem anyway. The rest of the navigation works fine and it has happened with just a few recipes so far. This is a very readable pie book, his writing style is very friendly and accessible and he's extremely knowledgeable. I think it would be a valuable addition to anyone's pie library whether you purchase the actual book or the Kindle version.

If You Have A Loved One With Cancer This Book Is God Sent! This is the most important book you may read to help you through the process. I regret this review can not give justice to this wonderful guide book. I lost my wife of thirty years to Cancer. If I had this book before her passing my life would have been different.Caregiver Susan Brownell shares her many years of experience helping you to make the passing a better time, not only for your loved one and yourself but your relatives and friends. Ms. Brownell covers the many aspects and circumstances that may arise. She explores taking care of the caretaker as well as the patient. She gives many many little things you can do to make the loved one interested and occupied. How to give a better quality life in the final days. Her main message is Love, and she covers this beautifully from all areas.If you have a loved one with Cancer get this book now! I know I made many mistakes this book could have prevented. I think the only thing I did right was showing and expressing love. It was about the last day before my wife's passing, after spending the night at her side, I was heading off to get a little sleep. The usual process was to say "I love you" and she would say "I love you too". This time I said "I love you" and she gave me a sweet smile and said "I know".

When I started reading this I felt it might be too long. But as I read through the words and the innumerable times that Susan was involved in caregiving, I started to reflect on how this book might be read, a few pages at a time when a caregiver needs a bit of care herself, and some gentle, non- judgmental, even not time demanding words.This book covers that type of reading and brought so much of my own family's caregiving experiences to heart.I love the drawings and appreciated the quotes. Your book fills an essential need that is difficult to define yet so many of us have known of what you speak or are going through it at this moment.Well done! Stephanie Atwood

I lost my Dad to cancer in 2000 and everything Ms Brownell wrote about in her book is right on track on dealing with the disease and how to deal with a dying family member! She touched on the right issues and her many suggestions to make the patient's life more enjoyable is exactly right! I didn't have a book like this to read going through my Dad's illness but it would have been most helpful and a welcome guide to have during that time!

This is am AWESOME read! Such a blessing while my husband fought Pancreatic cancer. Made me know we were not alone in this horrible fight! A must read for every caregiver! I purchased 4 to give away to friends who have given me nothing but rave reviews! Susan Brownell wrote with heart and the caregiver in mind! Recommended highly!!

Just finish Cocoon of Love. I do not have any family member with cancer. I do have ageing parents. So to me it still was so very helpful on understanding anyone who is ill. Open my eyes in so many ways. Thank you for writing this book. Very helpful

Anyone who appreciates Formula One racing will like this calendar. The photos are all of historically significant cars with brief, intelligent write-ups on each car. The photos are stunning. More of a museum setting, with pristine examples and totally blacked-out backgrounds. Very tastefully done.

I lost my husband in July of 2016 and this book so helped me deal with his death! It shares people and theirstories of having lost a loved one. It alerted me to the fact that I am not alone; in fact there are thousandsat any one time who is also grieving the loss of a loved one. I read it and didn't want to put it down untilI had finished the book. I then passed it on to another friend who lost her spouse 12 days after I lost mine.I totally recommend it to anyone whether or not you've lost a loved one, spouse, etc. It is very informativeand easy reading.

As I was reading this book, I am glad to see others are going or went through what I am going through. This roller coaster of emotions is not easy to work with, but like you said we need to work through it. I did cry while reading this and already have counseling going, going to try and get others who are not only safe to talk to but ones who have gone through what I am going through at moment. His lose has hit me hard, and the void that was left is fairly big, within time I know I will heal but still the memories are there. I already experience many memories from listening to music, or doing things we loved to doing together.

If you have experienced the loss of your spouse, PLEASE get this book. It has been eight months since my husband passed away and this book has made me see my grief in a healing way. I will always grieve and always miss and always love my husband but with the help of this book, I feel like there is hope, I am not in this alone. For your own healing, please get this book. This book has been such the blessing that I needed to help me learn how to grieve. Heartbroken but not alone.

I recently purchased three copies. One for myself, the other two for friends who had also lost their spouse. I don't know what I expected, but I started tearing up immediately upon starting to read. So many stories spoke to the feelings I have had, or have not yet experienced since the death of my Dale. A wonderful book that takes us on a journey toward healing and accepting life as it is now without our lifelong mate. Thank you, Gary!I have since ordered 5 more copies for friends who are grieving, and I'm ready to order more. In place of flowers, or anything else, I find that the people I have gifted have been appreciative of this gift of healing. When I originally read the book, I went straight through it in one night. I think I must have just been reading words. I recently picked the book up again and re-read it. Took me three weeks to work my way through, sometimes only reading 2-3 pages at a time. I also took the time to answer the questions that followed each section of the book. Thanks again, Gary for helping me to make this journey.

Outstanding book for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. It is written in layman's terms and reflects all the stages that a person goes through. I lost my husband on March 5th, which was totally devastating, and I'm still in the early stages of grief. I find this book to be comforting. I would recommend it to anyone who has just lost a loved one or maybe is several years into the grief process. I believe this book would be a blessing to anyone who reads it and wants to feel comforted

I'm sorry to be negative about what is clearly beloved by many. If there's one area in which your mileage may vary, it's grief. This is just my take, my opinion.I did not find this book helpful in the slightest. Very short chapters in which someone describes what they're feeling (sad, guilty, angry, lonely, lost, relieved) and then a suggestion to "honor your loved one" and a short Bible verse or inspirational quote.I was looking for something more concrete to help me through this agony, not a series of platitudes and vague remarks about "it takes the time it takes," "be gentle with yourself," and similar statements. I could have written this book myself after an hour of looking at various blogs about the grief process.I'm giving it 2 stars because the Kindle formatting was perfect and the writing itself was well done with no errors in grammar that I noticed. I'm sure the book is meant kindly and that the author hopes it will be helpful.

As I read this book, there were so many things I could relate to. My ex-husband, who I was married to for over 19 years suddenly passed away 2 years ago. I am still struggling with his death and at times, I still don't believe that he is gone. Although, we were divorced, we still had a good relationship and I can honestly say that he was the love of my life. I'm dealing with a multitude of emotions including guilt but hope that in time, I can come to some type of peace that I did the best that I could for him.

Delightful, poignant, steamy, heartbreaking and soul healing journey to trust and love. Oh my happy heart i loved this story. I laughed and i cried and i will carry the heart of these MC's with me for a long time. The writing was beautiful and so compelling. The story-line flowed and was engaging.Jag and Michael are two halves of a whole and this is an amazing story about how trust can change two lives. I really enjoyed both MC's and i loved the romance of so many of the scenes that were created so beautifully.There are some very painful scenes in this book and i would recommend reading the trigger warnings. However each memory and experience leads to understanding the conflict and makeup of Jag and Michael.This is a beautiful read and i highly recommend it!!

So worth to read it.

This is my first tale by the author, but I found it kind of annoying that she'd write a tale that I only belatedly realised was set in the UK, as she did not give one identifying feature as to where it's set. What clued me in was the mention of twenty pounds for a lap dance. And, she didn't do her research about a separate issue.The English language used wasn't really the English English I'm used to as a Brit; I can't really recall what exactly, mainly expressions (I think 'in uni' was one, rather than the 'at uni' we use, and more). And, the author portrays, and yes I know it's fiction, a UK that I can't imagine. We don't really bat an eyelid at anything 'alternative' and I use the definition in the broadest sense. I have never once witnessed or heard of anything homophobic. I'm not saying that homophobia may not exist, but I don't think that anyone with a brain and a half decent education would openly express this in 2019 UK; they are the ones who'd be vilified, not the homosexual person.I could not suspend disbelief enough to believe that Jag's doctor mother, a medical professional, would believe in conversion therapy. I don't think Brits could be that moronic. I checked with hubs, who just happens to be an Approved Mental Health Professional (that the author mentions) and conversion therapy isn't a UK thing; he asked if the tale was set in the US and I got raised brows when I said, 'No, UK.' If it does exist, it's illegal and 'under the table' and normally only seen in ethnic communities.And, it is NOT possible that any fellow professional would collude with the mother, even if she broke her oath to do no wrong, to force someone into being sectioned. The mother would not be allowed to be part of the process, as you have to be specially trained and qualified, and there are too many mental health laws and safeguards in place, the most important being that one person has to be completely independent. Sectioning is an extreme last resort. There are NO grounds for Jag's fears, and any decent solicitor would have been able to dismiss Jag's fears outright. It would have been pretty easy (for the author, for Jag, for Michael, for the solicitor...) to google and get the right info, so that part of the storyline was really weak, especially as Michael had clearly done some research and had come up with the idea of a solicitor. There are no 'shaky grounds for a sectioning', or, 'if they haven't followed the right steps.' as the solicitor puts it... So, a deal breaker for me, as the author really should have researched more to make that part of the book credible. I did finish the tale, but it wasn't credible for me, and I thought it tropey with the older, bigger male lead turning out to be the malleable, submissive, needy one, and the smaller, slighter guy calling the shots and being the bossy top. And, Jag called the shots on the whole relationship, which made it too unequal for me. This book wasn't for me, sorry.ARC courtesy of the author; a review was not a requirement.

This is the first time I’ve read a book from the author. The start was quite slow, as the story progressed the storyline just became ridiculous, the reason for the paranoia is warranted since he’s been running and scared since he was 15 but at 20 years old, nah, you’re a grown man and no one can legally make you go some place without proper cause and all this guy Jag had to do was ask the question, why can’t my parents force me to go with them, that’s the only question cause after that was asked, problems solved, smh. It was a painful read and the characters lacked chemistry and the back and forth with Jag being all secretive and Michael being all woe is me cause Jag won’t answer questions, and I felt for Michael but man was it painful. I skipped to the end, it was just absolute torture.Overall, skip it, the angst was misplaced and the characters had no chemistry and the storyline was ridiculous.

Jag is broken. Running from his parents who placed him in conversion therapy because he was gay. Running from someone he thought he could trust. Running from his memories. Living by his own set of rules that had protected him for years.Michael owns a club that is a safe haven for gay men. They dance and he pays them fairly and protects them. Not allowing anyone to force them into doing something they don’t want to do.When Michael give Jag a safe place to work and live he thinks maybe he will be safe for a while before he needs to run again. He didn’t know that by allowing Michael in a little bit that the man would take over his heart.This was a sad story about a young man who was hurt beyond understanding by his family. The author did a nice job of depicting his uncertainty and pain and his unwillingness to let anyone in. She gave him Michael as a way to start healing. Nicely done

“Broken” is a book that shows us the journey of Jag and Michael finding one another and piecing themselves back together; each helping the other in their own way. I loved how Jag used dance to help express himself and how Michael didn’t just heal him magically. “Broken” tackles a hard subject that I cannot stand, conversion therapy (which needs to be abolished), Ms Davison shows the reader the long term psychological damage that it leaves behind. This story was well written, my only complaint is that I wished for an epilogue, but that’s just me being greedy for more Jag, Michael, Mac and Russell :)I give this book 4 stars.I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

This is the first book by Colette Davison that I have read and I loved it. I love when a writer can make someone who thinks they are broken realize that their strengths are in what they have survived. The characters were well written and through my tears I loved it.

Couldn't stop turning pages! Both characters were well written and awesomely portrayed. They were meant for each other. I really enjoyed this story and would definitely read this author again...and AGAIN!

If you want a book with some teeth in it’s fight scenes, depth in its characters, and a roller-coaster ride of plot development so intense you forget to make dinner-this is your book. I give this book five out of five stars for living up to its well deserved acclaim, taking me back to ancient Rome, making me girl crush on some amazing strong female characters, and throw up my hands and cheer like my team just won the super bowl at a surprise plot twist.What I loved:1) The fight scenes, it takes talent to write scenes this good and Quinn dishes out combat of both the physical and verbal variety. There were several gladiator scenes, each unique, and served to push the story forward and sometimes pull out unique details about different characters. I really liked the banquet/orgy/catfight between Thea and Lady Lepida, It was a rare sequence I found fiercely intense. I loved hating bad girl Lepida, she added all kinds of fun crazy.2) The relationships, wound the books plot together and breathed life into a fantastic cast of characters. The tension and connection displayed between families, friends, and lovers was marvelous. The romance between Thea and Arius was built in a few simple scenes, but it was true to life and unique. It was wonderful to see how their connection carried through the rest of the book.3) The environment was drawn well. The beauty as well as the ugly underbelly of ancient Rome was portrayed masterfully. The details of this historical place and culture are used in the right amounts and never became gratuitous or irrelevant to the action in the story.*Content disclaimers for squeamish or under age readers: The violence is graphic but appropriate for the era and theme of the book. The sexual content is discussed more than it is portrayed, and what is shown is mild and tastefully done.

I didn't think I would like this book, but I thought I would give it a try. And I am glad that I did.I liked the background of Ancient Rome. I thought that the historical context of the book was fascinating and realistic. The cruelty of the dictators, the lives of the slaves, the role of gladiators, the gore and barbarity of the Coliseum, the characteristics of the general public and other parts of the story I found most educational and, at times, horrible..The characters were also well developed. There was one cruel, horrible, and egocentric female character in the book that I wanted so badly to jump into the book and tell her off.Overall, I enjoyed the book and I do recommend it.

This book wasn’t what I was expecting at all. It was much darker and sad that I thought it would be. From the opening line, it became clear that this wasn’t going to be a happy tale…..cutting and ‘bleeding’ one’s self is hardly the beginning of a happily ever after romance, which was what I was expecting when I picked up the book.But I kept reading. I wasn’t sure what to think or expect after the first chapter but I was willing to give it a fair shot. I didn’t really like any of the characters….Thea was so guarded that I never warmed to her even in the end. Lepida was a vengeful bitch but as the villain that’s the be expected. The Barbarian was too dark and also too guarded to really see him as a ‘hero’ or ‘romantic’ interest. I mean I didn’t like ANY of the characters…..but still I kept reading.So that said, you would think that I would give this star a low rating right? Wrong. Oddly enough while I wasn’t especially attached to the characters and didn’t especially ‘like’ the story…..I was glued to the pages for one reason…..it was different.It wasn’t the same old cliche hero and heroine. I liked that Quinn went with the darker side of Roman culture and society instead of the easy traditional route. I felt like Quinn was true to the period and true to the brutal and often violent, ancient world.Not to mention the story was so twisted and just dark and wrong, that I couldn’t help but keep reading. I had to know how things were going to resolve for the characters in the end.Even now I can’t say that I really liked this book…..the characters and the subject matter were dark and not really ‘likable’ or even ‘relate-able’ but for some reason I just could not put it down….I had to know what happened and how things were going to wrap up. This was a book that just took hold somehow.So will I read the other books in the series? Yes I most definitely would. I think Quinn has a unique way of story telling…..and any one who can keep me reading when there is really nothing to like, has earned my readership!
