About the Author

Peter Bagge created Hate, one of the best-selling and most formative comic book series of the ’90s. Born in New York in 1957, after graduating from the School of Visual Arts, Bagge contributed to and, along with R. Crumb, edited the underground anthology Weirdo. I have longed for a collection of Bagge's strips so I don't have to search through back issues of REASON for them. Now they are here in one place.

Peter Bagge is, perhaps, the wittiest, most talented political cartoonist out there. And paradoxically, he's also the least doctrinaire, and perhaps the only political cartoonist who doubts and questions his own beliefs in his work.Bagge's intuitions lead him to beliefs best characterized as libertarian- the idea that the rights of the individual are sacred, and that governments cannot- or should not- ever sacrifice the individual for the "common good." Yet unlike some who profess libertarian (or Individualist) philosophies, Bagge is possessed of a strong moral sense that compels him to consider the interests of those who are the worst off in society. This essential tension, combined with Bagge's brilliant art and ear for dialogue, makes his work at once entertaining and thought provoking.There are few, if any, heroes in Bagge's work. Most politicians strike him as less than admirable, whatever their political leanings. He finds doublespeak and self-interest as common in politicians as in businessmen, and will quickly point out when he sees taffy being distributed, whether by flag waving cultural conservatives or granola chomping communitarians. Bagge is a favorite of mine, so I did my best to ignore his inept political observations. He has a real knack for humor in comic form. I prefer his "pure fiction".

I am a big Peter Bagge fan from back in the day and have followed him since his contributions to Weirdo and his own comics Neat Stuff and Hate. I did not read the original appearances of these short pieces in Reason magazine, so I was glad to have them collected all in one place. I generally enjoyed reading these thought pieces and exercises in journalism. The least effective were rants that Bagge labelled as such, but so much of the thinking was conventional or reactionary and not particularly interesting.Bagge seemed to come alive and show his brilliance in the pieces where he acted as a reporter either at a political convention or on the campaign trail; Bagge's gift for caricature and sardonic mockery flourishes in these pages and I found myself laughing and re-thinking beliefs as Bagge was illustrating his ideas rather than mouthing cranky old man tropes.This book is best read in small doses and the one-pagers are often more successful than the four-page features. Not a major work in Bagge's output but definitely worth reading.

Humor! Insight! Social commentary! Peter Bagge! THIS IS THE ULTIMATE COMBINATION! AMAZING!!!!!!!

Yeah, I'm a pinko liberal so my ilk are skewered throughout this publication but that's not my problem with this collected work. It's hackneyed, simplistic, naive and just plain not funny. What's more, one of the main reasons you subscribe to the cult of Bagge is for the outrageous artwork which so viscerally mimics the emotions on display. All absent and unaccounted for. I guess we all get old and uninspired eventually.I think I would have prefered reading about Leonard "Stinky" Brown's afterlife as worm food.

God I love Peter always have always will. I love Hate and everything he has done, and this book is no exception. It's funny and crazy with his own brand of drawings that I think are better than anyone else out there. No one compares to Peter ever!!!

I'm normally a big fan of Peter Bagge--his Buddy Bradley books are works of genius--but this collection of self-righteous idiotic rants is a complete waste of money and time. I'm normally fine with (if mildly amused by) Bagge's Libertarian edge, but this foray into political commentary is disoriented, disjointed, and too often downright boring--the comic book equivalent of an Andy Rooney bit.At its best, Everybody is Stupid comes off like a rambling email from that deranged relative who spends too much time on internet forums. At its worst, the subjects of its rants are predictable and outdated, often leaving you with the feeling that you had heard the same argument or pointed observation worded better somewhere before.Save your money and go listen to the maniac at the bus stop instead--at least some of his ideas may be original.

I greatly enjoyed this book and learned from it. I generally agree with the enthusiasm of other reviewers. The writing style is wonderfully entertaining, whether you are interested in becoming a sculptor or you just wish to learn about small sculptures and collectible action figures. The cartoons are priceless!! I especially liked the cartoon of Athena and her owl sitting in a waiting room.I have several reservations:1. From the text I could not understand how "pivot joints" and "ball joints" would hold a figure together. It appeared that articulated figures joined in this manner would easily fall apart. Probably this isn't true, but the process as explained is not completely clear and I would like much more detail.2. There was not much material on sculpting with epoxy clays, which I see as very valuable and versatile material, less messy and demanding than wax or clay, usable both by hobbyists making or modifying a single character and by production modelers. I find such clays to be both cleaner, less expensive (for permanent pieces) and easier to work than the materials the book primarily focused on.3. It would have been helpful if the book had included a comprehensive resource list, identifying many suppliers and providing web site links.4. It would have been helpful if the book had included a bibliography of recommended further readings.5. The book did not include a great deal of information on sculpting techniques. I suspect sculpting small parts accurately and in proportion will be difficult for many beginning sculptors. Such information is important.Recommendations:I suggest the Katherine Dewey book on "Lifelike figures in polymer clay" as a companion reference- Amazon apparently agrees.I recommend the "Smooth-On" "Polytek" and "Alumilite" websites as rich sources for more information on modeling, molding, and casting with modern plastic materials. Look at the pictures, watch the viddies, and LEARN!! There is much more to RTV silicone molding than the present book book presented.I am especially impressed by Smooth-On's epoxy modeling putties in various hardnesses and densities.Also check out "Douglass & Sturgess" web site as a source of bulk sculpting wax and many other media and tools- they are happy to talk to you and answer your questions by telephone- and look up "Monster Clay" on the Internet as an inexpensive alternative to Castilene modeling products.That said, immediately after reading this book I went to my friendly neighborhood comic shop (they also carry figures), and recommended they stock the book and display it prominently. Buy this book- then keep sculpting and keep reading!!

If you can get past the cheesy tag lines there are some really interesting things. This book has some really good tips and techniques with various materials for the hands on sculptor. The main sculpting author is an extremely talented sculptor who works well in wax and the book reflects this method. He describes some of the materials that you may wish to use in your wax and then gives a couple very disappointing generic wax recipes. As a wax sculptor the author could have certainly given more recipes and it would still take the average person quite awhile to sort out what suits their sculpting style. For example I add talc as a filler to my sculpting wax for sculpting dolls. In the past I cut my teeth sculpting in wood and prefer to use some wood sculpting tools. Talc is mentioned as a possible ingredient, but after reading this book you may never really give it a second look when mixing up a batch of wax.I wish the book had more information for the reader on joints of action figures and dolls.The actual how to sculpt section is week, but in the authors defense for most people it is hard to describe to someone the finer points of sculpting. I would recommend Philippe Faraut, his books and videos describe how to sculpt extremely well. Overall it seems more geared towards garage kits than action figures, if that's you bag you'll absolutely love this book. If you are a action figure or doll sculptor It's a book to own, but far from your only book.As far as picking this book up to start a career in sculpting. There will always be a place for hand sculpted art, however the commercial sculptural art field is getting smaller and smaller each year. For commercial use laser scanners and 3-d printers are at the very beginning of the future. In ten years they will be the death of this field in all but a few old school mom and pop operations. Even then the mom and pop operations will probably use some of the newer technology. If I were a young sculptor just starting out, I would want to understand how things were done in the past, but lean more towards the newer technology.

I love this book. It paid for itself ten times over by the second chapter and goes onward and upward from there. Written by absolute experts in this field, these gentlemen are truly modern masters. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to not only "look over their shoulders" as they create, but to be lead by the hand, patiently and humorously, to create my own masterpieces. They, through this book, have persuaded me to attempt to mix my own custom sculpting wax formula. If it satisfies my sculpting needs, I will have saved thousands of dollars in materials alone, considering today's retail prices of premixed clay and wax products. They also don't try to cram branded products down your throat, but let you in on the money-saving secrets, economical techniques and handy work-arounds that have served them well.This book is a real treasure I will be referring to for years. Thank you Tim, Zach and Ruben.

All aspects are discussed (anatomy, structure, tools, media availability and choices, etc.), but the majority of the work emphasizes advanced techniques that may be beyond a beginner to intermediate level sculptor. Highly detailed chapters on posing the piece, mold-making (both rough cast and final casting) and articulation of the piece for "Action figure" production.

SO . . .it's worth finding out how these organizations out to run.Here's the answer to all the questions that pop up during the operation of the Association and it's relationship to the CAM.

New member to a condo board and this book sure helps navigate the legislative minefield of FL condo laws. Certainly makes communication with other board members easy. Just refer to a section and complicated points are easily communicated. Written in plain english. Sure doesn't replace the advice of an attorney but it sure reduces the time needed; therefore, legal billing.

Clearly defines the State of Florida Condominium Law and puts it into words everyone can understand, giving reference to the Law by section and paragraph, making it easy to cross reference one to the other. If you are on a condo board in Florida or own a condo in Florida this book makes it easy to find the appropriate section of law and helps to clarify the purpose and reason for that statute you might be interested in.

This is a great learning tool for anyone who lives in a condominium in Florida. Know your rights and your obligations! This explains the law in simple to understand terms and should be required reading for anyone who serves on a condo board of directors. Mr. Dunbar also writes a similar book for homeowner associations. I call this book my condo Bible! Not expensive and worth every penny.

Wow, this book is chock full of important (perhaps boring...LOL!) information regarding Florida's Statutes concerning condominium management. I would say it's a MUST-HAVE for Condo Board members. It's easily used as a quick-reference book.

This is a necessary reference book for any Florida condominium board member or committee chairperson. Dunbar translates the F.S. 718 and relevant administrative rules into lay-understandable language. He includes an index, footnotes to the statutes, and sample documents. I'm on my third biannual copy.

Great guide for board members and condo owners. It explains in clear detail the duties and responsibilities of all concerned in condo living.

This book is a must for anyone who owns a condominium in Florida. It does not matter if you are on the board or not, this book explains the ins and outs of ownership and indeed, all of condo life.

Okay, so I have to be honest, I haven't read this book yet. I only got into the book series because of the TV series on Starz. I watched all 16 episodes and I was hooked. Was going to purchase book 1 "Outlander", but then I realized I owned it in Audible and had purchased it about 9 months ago when Audible was having a huge sale. At the time I didn't know what I was getting, only that the book took place in Scotland and had great reviews. Now, I'm listening to "Outlander" and I'm about half way through...it's something like 33 hours, but the narration is wonderful. I went to my local bookstore and found books 2-7 and almost purchased them all, but I didn;t want to overwhelm myself, so I only got "Dragonfly in Amber". Can't wait to read it.

I am a victim of Outlander addiction, both the TV show and the books. I'm mystified about what it is that is so compelling about these huge tomes but never in my fairly long life have novels grabbed me so intensely. This is the second of 8 published so far. It's a wonderful, densely detailed, imaginative story with epic characters. At times it rambles and is overly wordy but it's important to read every line because you never know what's going to crop up in the next book. The language is so rich that sometimes I have to take a few days break from the linguistic decadence. Gabaldon is truly a force of nature...an inspired writing machine. I fell down this rabbit hole in January, have read 5 of the 8 books and have already read the first two twice. Warning: these books are addictive. You could be entering a world beyond your control!

FINAL DECISION: I ended up liking this one better than OUTLANDER itself. The story seemed tighter, the relationship between Claire and Jamie more complex and although there is plenty of death and pain in this book, it felt more civilized after the events of the first book. And I ended up in tears for most of the end of this book.THE STORY: After the events of OUTLANDER, Jaime and Claire have fled to France. There they will try to prevent the coming battle of Culloden in order to prevent the destruction of the Highlanders culture. Their scheme requires them to participate in Eighteenth Century French court politics and intrigues with Bonnie Prince Charlie and the King of France. There are still repercussions from Jamie's torture and rape at the end of OUTLANDER. Intrigues, danger and the past threaten to tear Jamie and Claire apart even at the point where they share joy at the coming of their child.OPINION: I liked OUTLANDER, but I liked DRAGONFLY IN AMBER more. OUTLANDER was about Jamie and Claire discovering one another and falling in love. This book is about letting their love and marriage mature. In OUTLANDER Jamie and Claire ran the gauntlet of danger. This book is a slow burn. Things are quieter, more outwardly civilized and yet even more complicated and dangerous. Politics, society and intrigue take up the majority of this book.For those readers who read OUTLANDER but don't know more about the series, they will be surprised by the beginning of this book. (I don't want to give it away, but it is a clever story device to begin the narrative there instead of being strictly chronological). The book feels fresh and different after OUTLANDER. The characters have grown and changed (not always for the good) and there are lots of new characters to get to know. Old friends and enemies also have returned so there is a good reason to review the events of OUTLANDER if you haven't read it in a while.Jamie is more remote in this book after the events with Jack Randall in OUTLANDER. He is still struggling with the aftermath and the pressures of trying to save the entire Highlands. Being involved in the political intrigue means that he and Claire spend less time together and thus immense pressure is placed on their relationship.Claire is also struggling to find her role in this new situation. The new life in the Court of France has new conflicts and restrictions upon this twentieth century woman. She has to use her imperfect knowledge of the past to help avoid Culloden while know knowing whether such a thing is possible. She is also struggling with her relationship with Jamie. She gave up her entire life to be with him and now she has to deal with those consequences.On a more philosophical point, the book also investigates the idea of changing the past. Is it even possible for Jamie and Claire to change the events that lead to Culloden or does everything they do actually cause that event to happen? Can the past be changed at all? These are universal themes in time travel stories and this book examines those issues with complexity and subtlety. Even better, there are no real answers.I began reading OUTLANDER when the television series started because I always want to read the books first and I began reading this one in preparation for Season 2. I don't know if I have been influenced by the series, but I felt that this book went more quickly and the events were clearer, the characters more defined and the outcome more devastating. I cried through the end of the book because it was incredibly well written and sad. At the end of this book, I desperately wanted to begin VOYAGER (book 3) to find out what happens.WORTH MENTIONING: This book ends on a cliffhanger.CONNECTED BOOKS: DRAGONFLY IN AMBER is the second book in the Outlander series. It can be read as a standalone, but why do that. Read OUTLANDER first to really appreciate DRAGONFLY IN AMBER.STAR RATING: I give this book 5 stars.

Just be forewarned that once you start this series, you can't stop. But wait, this is a review for book 2 so you probably already know that! In fact, you're probably not even wasting precious time to read any of these reviews and are already glued to this 2nd book. Why am I wasting precious time writing this review when book 3 is impatiently waiting?! I don't know!!! **panic starts to creep in** If you're reading the Kindle version, I'd highly recommend purchasing the Audible companion as well so you can switch back and forth and maximize your time wrapped up in this beautifully woven story. One word of advice though, if you get the Audible version and listen to it through your car stereo while driving, don't do what I did.... Don't be so engrossed in the story that you forget your windows are down at a red light, in dense traffic, with plenty of others with their windows down, while the book is at one of the steamy scenes between Jamie and Claire, and you're sitting there behind the wheel, alone in your car, smiling like a fool, 😏 blissfully unaware of all the stares until you're jolted out of your reverie by all the honking.

Just as fantastic as the first in the series. It helps that the Starz show also keeps pretty true to the novels with a few minor exceptions. While rich in description and language, the book is an easy read which is useful at nearly a thousand pages. With Diana Gabaldon's series you get your fix of romance, as well as fantastic historical and war fiction, science and medicine, travel, a bit of sci-fi, as well as a great dose of feminism with Claire's role(s). The author really mixes all these literary genres quite well into one remarkable series that is hard to detach from. At times you find yourself frustrated with how many pickles these characters find themselves in on a regular basis, but that's why it's fiction. Just go with it and enjoy.

I'm an avid skeeball fan and have a special place in my heart for miniatures. I really wanted to love this and patiently waited 6 months for its release. While it is cute and looks great on my desktop it could have bee made a little better. It needs a ball return which could have been easily built into the mold and the stickers, while fun to apply should have been painted on. It's not really worth $10.

A fun toy. Everyone at work enjoys this little game. Sometime we place it in a low cut box so the balls don't fly off on the ground :)

A great addition for someone who keeps coming back to play. Though it is really kind of small and putting stickers on the rings can be quite difficult. Plus these 1/4" diameter ball bearings can get easily lost if you're not careful and may end up in children's mouths, hence the warning label on the box. The little book does tell the history of the game and how you play it.I bought it because I haven't played the game in a long time!

I purchased this product as a stocking stuffer for my 7 year old, because he loves to play skee-ball! It definitely is small, and a little hard at first to get the hang of. But for the price and just for a little extra bit of fun for any skee-ball fan, it still brings a smile to your face! It something he can take anywhere, (just as long as it’s not too hard to find the tiny metal balls!) and it keeps him entertained!

My Sister is stuck behind a desk all day and seemed to enjoy this cute lil Skee-Ball set. Not sure it was worth the near $7 I paid, but I’d buy again if needed at $5 or less.

This might have been cute and worth the money had it actually arrived with all of the pieces intact. The ball bearings/balls weren’t included in the package.

I was excited to get this when I ordered it. When it came, I opened it and started playing with it. About five minutes later, I had lost one of the tiny marbles/skeeballs. I also don’t know how you could roll something smaller than your fingernail, as it said in the instructions to roll the ball. I tried flicking it, and that’s how I lost one of them. Disappointed.

And the Foreword written by her daughter not long after Marilyn's death was genuinely touching, and confirms my overall opinion of her.

A very honest look into the life of one of the best actresses in the adult or mainstream industry. It was sad she died at such a young age because she had so much more to accomplish. McKenna your mom is an awesome woman you can learn so much from her life. I wish you the best.

I really wanted to like this book. I have a daughter and want her to be a good friend. To be independent. To be thoughtful, have integrity, and be genuine.To preface, my family moved a fair amount before I was 10. I attended 3 different schools and as such, had trouble making lasting friends until later in life. I was made fun of a great deal, and no matter what I did or said, I was not popular. My parents tried to help me navigate this, and when their suggestions did not work (or backfired), I felt even more like a "loser." Reflecting as an adult, I wish I'd spent a great deal LESS time focusing on trying to get those girls to like me, and a lot more time on things I cared about. The first half of this book preaches the opposite.Tips on how your daughter can be more likable. Tips on what she can say to get other girls to be friends with her. How to get invited to the cool girls' party. How to avoid social faux pas such as using sarcasm that is misunderstood by others, or playing with one girl at another's expense.The second half of the book talks about how to build up girls' self-confidence, authenticity, and growth mindset. This is far more worthwhile. I wish it were the focus of the whole book. IMO, this is the stuff that matters. Not whether you're likable. In fact, the "authenticity" chapter contradicts an earlier section in which the author suggests that the reader have their daughter practice phrases to help them make friends. There are some excellent reflective activities for girls and their parents throughout these chapters.The problem is, I was expecting a book that would enable me to help my daughter learn to be confident, authentic, and just "herself" regardless of what other girls are doing or saying. To fly above the "mean girls," so to speak. Instead, the book solves the mean girl issue with a hearty dose of teaching our daughters to behave a specific way in order to fit in and avoid being left out or uncool.If you want to learn about raising a confident child, there are some good tips in the 2nd half (and again, decent activities), but personally I recommend reading a book about growth mindset, grit, or similar instead.

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book! As a parent and a therapist, I run across "mean girl" behaviors all the time, and can sometimes feel at such a loss to help girls manage and navigate their way through these situations. "No More Mean Girls" gave me such a clear way of looking at and understanding these behaviors. Most importantly, it gave me some really good and concrete ways to handle this, both as an adult, and ways which I could help the girls in my life. As a parent and as a girl, I understand that emotions can run high when faced with this, so it's helpful to have some clearly thought out ways available to try out and use. I so loved this book, and now consider it to be one of my go-to reads on this subject, and the subject of helping our girls grow up to become strong and respectful of themselves and others.

Author Katie Hurley knows first hand about the challenges girls face in all development stages. She is an activist for empowering girls and helping them to find confidence in themselves. She provides easy to use tools/strategies to help girls focus on what really is important, and to build them up, and not be victims of "Mean Girls". This book is needed now more than ever, as we all see the negative impacts of social media and how girls self esteem is affected at much younger ages. This guide will help inform you, will open your eyes to issues you may not have know existed, and provide ways to help you navigate what you can do. A must read!

I read a lot of parenting books and I have to say this is one of my favorites. Katie does an excellent job of describing the culture that we live in and how its affecting our children, specially girls. I have a daughter who is in 2nd grade and been dealing with mean girls since kindergarten. This is a topic we all need to be talking about and help our kids empathize with others as kindness is the only way we can thrive. Thank you Katie for writing this book it has already changed the way I think about empowering my children to more kind and caring.

I love this book because it not only prepares you for what to look for and how to handle it, but it gives helpful suggestions for activities you can do with your daughter to help build her self esteem. I couldn’t have asked for more!

I’m still in the process of reading this book. From what I’m read it seems very good. I’ve alreadu learned some things I didn’t know when it comes to helping my daughter deal with her bullies. I do wish their were more activities to do with child. I read that there were some in book and I still haven’t come across them. Definitely worth a try if you are dealing with bullies and girls!

This book is so pertinent to what is happening with young people today. It is a problem solver! It is written by an author with professional knowledge of her subject, as well as personal knowledge of young people in her life. A must read for every parent and teacher!

If you have daughters or work with girls, this book is spot on and is a must read. I have learned a great deal about how girls socialize, and how this can contribute to the mean girl phenomenon. Great book!
