The authors do a fabulous job at keeping me on the edge of my seat every chapter. Love the concept and how well the story progresses with each book. The characters really help set the scene and move the plot along nicely, and I find myself loving each one more and more and crossing my fingers hoping they won't get killed off.

Not your typical vampire novel, and Alex Goddard is not your typical heroine! In this wonderful series of novels, you learn that there are different types of vampires, and that humanity has a group of kick-ass vampire killers in the Ground Mission Team! Non-stop, nail-biting action!

I am going to give the same review for each of the 3 books as all I can say is that they were brilliant, non stop action and a great story to boot, loved the characters. Could not put all three books down and I hope their is a continuation of this epic tale.

Wow transition from book 1 to book 2 was smooth as silk. The main characters were believeable and enjoyed the strong women in the book. Waiting on book 3.

It’s very rare that I wind up staying up late to finish a book. But this one is worth it. You can thank me later. Buy it, read it, you’ll love it.

I'm still upset that I read it so fast!. It was so good I had to keep reading chapter after chapter even when I had planned to stop. The series is getting so interesting I can't wait for the next one. Hurry up May 10th! !!

For me, who has very little knowledge of the language and culture of Japan, this was a very delightful and fun book to read and listen to via the audio files. The personal stories were excellent and made the learning experience more real and enjoyable. If one was planning to travel to Japan I think this book would definitely be helpful to augment one's understanding of the language and culture; and if one was trying to learn the Japanese language seriously, this book would also make that learning process easier. Traditional textbook learning is useful , but so is the kind of learning that goes beyond textbooks, and this author's approach to learning a language is rooted in personal experience. Unique - simply and skillfully written and illustrated!!

I really enjoyed the spirit of this book, straightforward, and pointing back to the fact that learning should / can be fun! The chronicles shared by the author are so vividly described. As an interpreter and translator myself, and currently learning my third Language, I totally agree with the fact that understanding the culture and trying to capture a Language as children do yields best results. Arigato.

I lived in Japan for 16 years. I wish I had had this language guide at that time. The simple, clear layout makes it easy to learn the real, everyday language. Interspersed with the authors very interesting, funny stories about his experiences living as a foreigner in Japan - out of the big city. Highly recommend.

Japan is, literally, an insular culture, difficult to understand from the outside; and it does not seem to make much effort to be understood either. For example very few Japanese speak English and very few signs are in English. This is part of its attraction but can also make going or living in Japan a daunting prospect, as the movie "Lost in Translation" shows. This is why learning the basics of the language in conjunction with the culture can really go a long ways to transforming your stay in Japan to a really great experience. This is where Max Whittle's book really stands out: instead of impersonal grammar lessons, the book immerses you in the experience of a newly arrived foreigner, the very experience of the author which he recounts in personal and funny stories, but always whilst imparting the most important knowledge for one to get around and get things done in everyday life. Most significantly, he does not shy away from always showing what, in experiencing Japan, can seem strange or peculiar, and how an understanding of the essentials of the language and culture can reveal the meaning of these interactions and help us relate them back to our own cultural peculiarities and universal experience of our shared humanity. Since learning the Japanese language or about its culture are two inseparable sides of the same coin, I highly recommend this book for anyone going to or studying Japan: it is fun, broken down into short, easy to assimilate and practical parts, full of fascinating insights, and written in a clear and concise prose. You will not want to put it down until the very last page!

I go to Japan annually with my work and really struggled to get by without any language and just as importantly without knowing the culture. This book has all the basic language tools you need like asking where the toilet is and how to get to the train station. About half the book (one story in each chapter) is made up of the authors experiences living in Japan that are super fun to read and give you the inside take on the culture, which is very helpful because it is so different to ours. It hits the sweet spot between the study sections and the authors stories from Japan making it easy to read and learn from. If like me you have limited time and energy get the audiobook too so you can listen and learn in your car or on the plane.

Real Japanese transcends many of the cliched tropes that too often mar more conventional "how to" books. Clearly written and combining a number of the English author's often fascinating personal experiences in Japan with his stated intention to communicate the way people really speak there (as opposed to a more traditionally formal approach), "Real Japanese" is often as entertaining as it is informative. As a Ph.D. in political science who formerly taught this subject at the college level, I was eager to see how the entire spectrum of political thought over the ages would be covered in a single volume.The effort in itself is admirable. Making this type of knowledge accessible to a popular audience is challenging, in more ways than one. Being interesting, concise and accurate all at the same time is certainly not easy. And it is inevitable that the process of selecting which information to present and how to present it will subject any such collection to criticism.A close look at many of the entries does indeed reveal some rough spots, to say the least. And the ideas are not always as easy to understand as they are clearly intended to be. Typographical errors and vocabulary issues also detract from the presentation.Though it wouldn’t be appropriate to consider this book any kind of definitive reference work, however, it can certainly serve the very positive purpose of exposing readers to a wide array of ideas and whetting their appetite for more detailed treatments.At the same time, I was positively impressed with the effort made to include various viewpoints and cultural perspectives. I hate to admit that I'm learning more from these books then I did when I went to school. In not the brightest man but these books make it clear who, what, when, where, and why politics and political change took place

You don't have to be a political Science student to love this book. it gives a succinct description of every political philosophy from Plato to present. this is a great volume for clarifying your own political positions as well as seeing the vast landscape of ideas that are never discussed in school or university. The book describes the human search for ideas that keep us from being beasts, yet at the same time keep the lights on and the water running.

My son loves it!! I love these books by DK publishing because they are perfect for inquisitive minds. We are trying to collect them all!

If you have read any other of the books from this series and liked them- you won't be disappointed in this book. Clear explanations, many subjects cover, and I didn't detect any "political bias" to the best of my knowledge.

Great Coffee Table Book, it's a fun 'intro to topic' book but like just about any textbook has a few errors so I wouldn't suggest for heavy learning purposes, but on the flip side they make the subject matter fun for novices (children, etc.)

With all of the names of different political systems being spoken of in the media, this book explains them all.
